Happy OCtober. Okay, so I”m not very happy that it’s OCtober. That means cold, and where I live, snow. Lots of it here in upstate New YOrk. So, is this idea of chilly autumn nights being so creepy because of Halloween? Psychologically, it is. Picture this: Halloween is banned as a holiday. Don’t ask me why. But suspend your imagination into an equally imaginary modern-day America where Halloween suddenly didn’t exist. Creepy, no? NOw, travel ten years into the future from then, and go out on the chilled, gray-clouded night on October 31st, or maybe a few nights earlier. Doesn’t matter when. The trees bare branches are creaking against one another in the rushing wind, and the air feels mostly dead of all living things. Don’t think of ghosts, werewolves or vampires in bat forms lurking around in the dark. There, in your own back yard. NO Halloween exists my friend! But, do you still feel afraid, out there alone with your wimpy flashlight searching up and down the tree trunks? Along the dewy grass? maybe just a little. But still, is it meerly the really forelorn weather conditions messing with your fear or that silly idea that roaming black cats in the service of their master witch creep through those weeds, closer and closer to you. To spring?! IT’s hard to say. The human mind’s very complex and easily fooled by its own exaggerated creation to make a bigger deal out of something than it really is. Okay, you’re back in the present time, and Halloween is still thirty days away. Interesting experiment, huh? Come back for more speculations and ramblings here for more of the ordinary things that become weirdly extraordinary.
